FAQs
common questions from campers
What does Hammock Sway offer?
Hammock Sway offers a property for those looking for an off grid private camping experience including: free range camping, dispersed camping, RV parking, campsites for groups and more. You don’t pay for a spot. You pay for peace and quiet.
Do you have power or water?
No. We don’t have power as we are an off grid facility. The main cabin does have a solar power setup so power is available for emergencies. The main cabin also has filtered water pumped from the Rocky River.
What is the bathroom situation?
As of today we are a pee on a bush and poop in a hole facility. However, we are working on an outhouse and shower facility.
Can you have campfires?
Absolutely. We have fire pits located around the property. If you camp in a location away from a fire pit, you can still have a private fire, provided you clear an area and create a rock fire ring. Please use your brain when building and maintaining a campfire. All fires must be extinguished before turning in for the night or leaving the campsite.
Are dogs allowed at the campground?
Yes! We encourage you to bring your dogs. We ask that you keep your dogs on a leash for the first 2 hours after arrival. Use that time to walk the property, perhaps as you find your perfect spot, and let the current dogs get comfortable with your dog so they can eventually all be off leash. Some restrictions apply and at any point you may be required to keep your dog on a leash. Please pickup after your pets! Bring bags.
What is a private campground?
This property is privately owned and there is room for you to camp in privacy. We have several areas located on 40 acres. There are locations around that are perfect for individuals or groups to camp in privacy. Allowing you to be free and one with nature, without the constant sounds and intrusions from a typical campground.
Is this a clothing optional or naturalist camp site?
Yes. Although the property as a whole is not, the sites are extremely private. So, you are free to be you at the River Camp, The Private Pine Forest or the Naturalist site. You can be at the river naked, however, you must keep in mind this isn’t a nude facility. Have a towel and in the rare situation of seeing other campers, simply cover up. Unless they are also naked.

Helpful Tips & Things To Bring
What To Remember
This is camping in the woods! There are sounds that come from the woods. Be aware of your surroundings and respect nature.
Plan to arrive during daylight
Arriving during daylight hours is strongly recommended. During the day, you’ll be able to clearly see the terrain, choose the campsite that best fits your needs, and safely position your vehicle, tent, or camper.
Bring something to sit on
There are no provided chairs, benches, or built-in seating. Having your own camp chair, hammock, or ground pad gives you a place to truly relax—whether you’re enjoying a meal, sitting by the fire, or just taking in the quiet of the surroundings.
Toilet paper and waste bags
Bringing your own toilet paper is essential. Just as important is packing small plastic bags (or sealable waste bags) to carry your waste back out with you after use. This helps keep the land clean, protects the natural environment, and ensures the experience stays enjoyable for everyone who visits.
Bug Spray with Tic repellent
Surrounded by woods, tall grass, and a nearby stream, the property is a natural habitat for mosquitoes, ticks, and other insects, particularly in the warmer months. A good insect repellent helps protect you from bites and allows you to fully enjoy your time outdoors. Tick protection is especially important.
In addition to your normal camping supplies, you should also plan to pack plenty of food & water, garbage bags for your waste, and closed-toed shoes for safety.

Camping in Tennessee...

Welcome to Hammock’Sway
Private, primitive, off-grid camping
Hammock’Sway is a private, off-grid campground in the mountains of Middle Tennessee, created by Chris Langen in 2019. Built with the intention of offering space, privacy, and a deeper connection to nature, it’s a place where you can truly relax, unplug, and recharge.
Unlike traditional campgrounds, Hammock’Sway is designed to feel more like a quiet backyard escape than a crowded campsite. With a minimum of one acre per site, guests have the freedom to spread out, settle in, and enjoy the natural surroundings without the noise and closeness often found at larger parks.
The property is intentionally primitive with no distractions–allowing the beauty of the land to take center stage. Whether you’re pitching a tent or bringing a camper, you’re free to choose a spot that feels right and make it your own.
Hammock’Sway is an open and welcoming environment where all kinds of people are invited to feel at home. Many guests come seeking space for personal retreats, reflection, and the simple experience of being present in nature. Others gather with friends to create meaningful moments together. Whether you’re planning a group getaway, a special event, or a quiet solo stay, this is a place where you’re free to be yourself.
Chris lives on the property alongside his camp dogs and a flock of chickens, adding a personal, welcoming touch to the experience. And maybe even some fresh eggs!
Hammock’Sway is also pet-friendly, so your four-legged companions are always welcome (so long as you clean up after them).
At its core, Hammock’Sway is about keeping camping simple and authentic. Camping in Tennessee… that truly feels like camping in Tennessee.
